About Jean

I’m a husband. I’m a father of two girls. I’m a business owner. I grew up in Bedford and now my family has done the same. I have a long history of volunteerism. Now I’m looking to be your advocate on HRM Council for District 16: Bedford-Wentworth.

A little bit about the background of Jean St-Amand, Candidate for HRM Council, District 16.

  • Born in Halifax and raised in Bedford.
  • Grad of Charles P. Allen High School (the OG version).
  • Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University
  • Married 22 years and has two kids, both adults – one studying at SMU and the other a practicing registered nurse – and a mini schnauzer.
  • Has run his own marketing communications consulting business since 2000.
  • Raised in a military family, spent two years overseas as a child
  • Bilingual (French immersion age 5-18)
  • Works part-time as a strength and conditioning trainer and certified olympic weightlifting coach in addition to hosting a health and fitness podcast

DECADES OF COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

  • Member of the 2024 Bedford Days committee
  • Coached girls basketball with Bedford Minor Basketball for 8 years
  • Served as an in-kind graphic design sponsor for the Bedford Classic Youth Basketball Invitational for 15+ years (many families have at least one t-shirt from the tourney, featuring the logo I designed)
  • Founded and organized the Bedford 5k to Beat Lung Cancer (2008-18) as part of Bedford Days in honour of his father, raising more than $50,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society
  • Board member for Harmony & Hope charity concerts (2012-19) supporting the Canadian Cancer Society
  • 2012 HRM Volunteer of the Year for District 21 (district number for Bedford, back in those days)
  • Helped local elementary student raise $10,000 for flood victims via UNICEF with his Madad Pakistan campaign, which the Federal government then matched
  • Served 3 years, one as President, of the School Advisory Committee for Rocky Lake Junior High, as well as two boundary reviews for the Halifax school system
  • Communications chair for multiple winning election teams for municipal, provincial and federal candidates in our community
  • Served for 5 years on the board that founded and organized the Dreamscape charity gala for Phoenix Youth Programs
